Basic Rules

MTTs can have hundreds or even thousands of players, spread across multiple tables.

A standard 52-card deck is used.

Each player begins with an equal number of chips.

  • Blinds: Small blind and big blind are posted as in other poker games.
  • Antes: As the tournament progresses, players may also be required to post antes.
  • Blind Levels: Blinds and antes increase at regular intervals, called levels.

As players are eliminated, tables are balanced by moving players to ensure even distribution until only one table remains.

Betting rounds follow the same structure as in No Limit Texas Hold’em or Pot Limit Omaha, depending on the tournament format.

  • Pre-Flop: Players bet based on their hole cards.
  • Flop: Three community cards are dealt face up. Players bet.
  • Turn: A fourth community card is dealt face up. Players bet.
  • River: A fifth community card is dealt face up. Players bet.
  • Elimination:

Players are eliminated when they lose all their chips.

The top finishers receive a portion of the prize pool, which is distributed according to the tournament’s payout structure.
Typically, the top 10-15% of the field gets paid, with the largest prizes going to the top finishers.

  • Fold: Discard your hand and forfeit the round.
  • Check: Pass the action to the next player without betting.
  • Call: Match the current highest bet.
  • Raise: Increase the bet.
  • Early Stage: Focus on building your chip stack while blinds are low. Play tight and aggressive.
  • Middle Stage:As blinds increase, adjust your strategy to account for the growing blinds and antes. Be more aggressive to steal blinds and antes.
  • Late Stage:With higher blinds and fewer players, play aggressively to accumulate chips. Focus on survival and chip accumulation.
  • Final Table:Play becomes more intense as players aim for the top prizes. Adjust your strategy based on stack sizes and payout jumps.

The goal is to accumulate chips and outlast other players to finish in a paying position. The ultimate objective is to be the last player standing and win the tournament.
